ROBOT Vs. RABBIT-Dos CD (Squirrel Girl/SQRL005) $14.50
Dos is Robot vs. Rabbit’s second album since they came together in 1998, apart from various CD-Rs and compilation appearances. Dos is three years of panic attacks, heartache and depression filtered through pedals, old amps, and primal urges. This album is a continuation of the themes established with RVR’s Trading the Witch for the Devil album [Mandragora 2002]. Whereas Trading the Witch focused on the horrors of World War II and the American psyche, Dos concentrates on the cold war era space race, the death of Kennedy, and the American dream. In Robot vs. Rabbit, nobody’s the front man. Nobody plays solos. Nobody’s told what to play. They blur the boundaries between avant-garde experimentalism and trance inducing improvisation with droning, drug-fuelled performances.

SARNO, DEVIN & G.E. STINSON-Heart Cell Memory CD (Squirrel Girl/SQRL004) $14.50
Heart Cell Memory marks the first recorded collaboration between noted Los Angeles based improvisers Devin Sarno (bass) and G.E. Stinson (guitar). Heart Cell Memory is cloudy low frequency textures merging into off world resonance. Captured transmissions from unknown latitudes. Warm floating globes of sonic structure and waveform tectonics. Shifting continents of sound collide at a glacial pace. The two collaborators wade neck deep into the tidal pool of oscillating string theory. Grammy Award winning guitarist/improviser G.E. Stinson co-founded Shadowfax in 1974, later relocating to Los Angeles, achieving success and eventual dissatisfaction. In 1989 he jettisoned into the Los Angeles underground music community, where he is still refining extended technique, frequency manipulation and laptop pulse programming. Sarno was a founding member of the seminal L.A. art rock band Waldo The Dog Faced Boy. As a bassist, Sarno has collaborated/recorded with many diverse acts including: Nels Cline, Thurston Moore, Joe Baiza, Mike Watt, Jack Brewer, Z’EV, Jason Kahn, Petra Haden, that dog, Abby Travis, Danny Frankel, Jeff Gauthier, Tom Surgal, Upsilon Acrux, Carla Bozulich, Brandon LaBelle, Vincent Gallo and others.

I met Alain Savoie (pivot) in a video store, then a friend of mine lent me his first EP.
While on vacation last year, I wrote a beat-oriented track and felt that he would enjoy remixing it.
I guess he did!
Here are the results……… ‘motor city.’ (in the MP3 section)
Al is one of the most engaging and gifted electronic musicians in Montreal.
Keep an ear out for his music under the PIVOT moniker.
